Shoes: Lola Ramona, Cardigan: Banned – from http://www.nostalgia.no

Normally in a tube dress I would size down, most of the time you should size down in this style for the best fit and to avoid having to pull up the dress every five minutes. I decided to stick with my normal size since I like to wear belts and petticoats with my dresses, I also wear my normal bra with the straps tucked down and secured it to the dress with bobby pins, and it worked perfectly. The top is comfortable and has a stretch band in the back so there’s room for more bust, so a smaller size would still fit me. A concealed hook above the zipper helps it stay in place.

I love the fullness of the skirt and how soft it feels. Even though it only costs £29,99 it is still of great quality and with good care and proper washing I believe the dress will last and not lose its shape.

Applying a petticoat gives even more fullness and with different colors you can make it “pop” even more. I’ve added a white belt for a cute effect, to help keep the top in place and to help make my waist look more even since I added the petticoat.

I chose the black and white because I have a more open option on what to style it with. It goes with almost everything I own and I like having that freedom. But the Melissa dress comes in 12 different styles; polka dots, cherries and solid colors, I would love to own one of each style!

Also: I LOVE how adorable the details in the top look and how it compliments the bust!

PinUp Life Hack #3: Sparkly shoecare

pinuphack hvit

Felt it was about time to post another PinUp life hack, and I feel this one is just in time for the Christmas parties and family gatherings – a tip I wish I knew when I first started buying shoes. This hack will help make your sparkly shoes last much longer.

20151126_181444

A well known fact about sparkly shoes, especially the more budget friendly shoes is that the glitter tend to fall off after only a few times. And given the history of Christmas parties the sparkle might start to fall off in big quantity already after the first night wearing them.

A great tip to make the glitter last longer is to use either aqua stop spray or regular hairspray. The aqua stop lasts longer and might only need to be applied once, while the hairspray method might need to be repeated a few times – preferably before each use.

dd26c75c-78c0-11e5-9430-22000a6289b5

All you need to do is spray your shoes before use. If you have aqua stop laying around: spray it and let it dry before applying another layer. That should do the trick.

With hairspray I would recommend spraying the shoes before each use. Just a thin layer all over the glitter parts. Let the shoes dry for a few hours. You can for instance spray your shoes before you start to get ready for the evening, and when you are done the shoes will be dry and ready to go.

This will help prevent the glitter from falling off and make them last longer than just a few nights out on the town.

New season, new design!

A new season is upon us, I’ve had a fun new photo shoot with some amazing pictures to show for it, so what better time than now to redesign my page a little?

I have some amazingly talented friend when it comes to photography and graphic design, so this time I wanted to implement those factors into my new design, using only my “local” network to build it.

The pictures used in my new header design is taken by a very talented local photographer with base here in my new hometown; Bø in Vesterålen. You can almost say that he is a colleague of mine given that we work at the same mini-mall together (but different shops so to speak). He took pictures of me when I first moved here as well and had an interview with the local newspaper that comes out once a week, one of my first professional photo shoots so I was rather stiff and unexperienced, but he was a blast to work with and showed interest in working with me again. After participating in the Miss Pinup Scandinavia contest I gained some newfound confidence in front of the camera and received some fantastic tips from both photographers that we worked with and the other Pinup girls. So when Øystein wanted to do a shoot that was a little different from what he was used to – I gladly jumped at the opportunity and agreed to model for him. Me gaining more experience in front of the camera and he got to expand his portfolio more to now contain more Pinup and alternative pictures. He does have both a facebook page and in IG account, but the best way to keep yourself updated with his work and to get in contact with him is through his webpage: http://www.lundeimages.com/

betty4

The second person I used from my own network is my multi talented friend Therese Kirkevold Krane.

Not only is she super talented with graphic design and creating amazing photoshopped headers and alternative pictures, but she is also very talented with the camera as well! She took some really cute hiking pictures of me when she visited me this summer (will be posted on my Facebook page, and on the blog later on).

And not to mention she works as a cook! Has an amazing talent in the kitchen. So this is a girl with many talents and good qualities to her name.

When I first started considering changing my design I knew I had to contact her first to see if she would be interested in helping me out, and lucky for me she was! Efficient and good communication is key! When making a new header for someone it’s important to listen to what they want and try to create their vision. She did a good job at the first attempt, and also had a close dialog with me through the process, showing me the design as it was made – checking in to see if I wanted it darker, lighter, more effects and so on.

PinUp Life Hack #2: How to remove dye stains

pinuphack hvit

So we’ve covered the most efficient way to remove hair color stains from your sink. But how about from yourself? This is one of the most well-known life hacks that almost all Pinups know about, and even non-pinups. But almost everyone is not everyone. I sure wish that I knew about this 10 years ago when I started regularly dying my hair on a yearly basis. Could have saved me from a lot of embaracing stains on my face and body.

PhotoGrid_1444839534934

So this technique works best when you apply it BEFORE starting to color your hair and applying it to your hair. But it actually works very well after also. Not that effective, but as you can see from the picture above: still gets the worst stains away much more efficient than just water and a cloth.

You need conditioner. You can use any kind really, the best is of course a deep conditioner, but a regular cheap one works too. If you’re not like me and actually remembers then apply a good amount on the normal places that would normally get stained from color. Ears, behind the ears, neck, hairline etc. Anywhere you normally discover stains. Then start the whole process of dying your hair.

PhotoGrid_1444839590821

BUT if you are anything like me, a complete goldfish! Then you can also use this technique AFTER you’re done applying the color to your hair. Make sure your hair is secured with a hair tie or hairpin so that it do not stain anywhere else. Locate all of the stains and apply a good amount of conditioner on them. Let it work for 1-2minutes before washing off with warm water.

This is one of the most basic pinup hacks that is out there and one of the first things we normally teach ourselves when we start coloring our hair. So spread the word and help future pinups avoid those pesky stains in the middle of their forehead.

PinUp life hack #1: Removing hair dye from surfaces

pinuphack hvit

One of the things that comes with most pinup lives is the hair color. Changing and maintaining. If you are a modern Pinup like me you like to change your hairstyle into crazy colors that stand out. But they also stain. A lot! Even though most crazy colors are semi-permanents they are highly pigmented. Have you ever tried removing neon pink from your bathroom sink? It wont budge!!

So with years of dying my hair I have encountered tons of methods on how to remove those pesky stains from the bathroom sink before mother comes home and show you the fastest way to hell because you ruined her newly cleaned bathroom.

I have tried them all. Regular soap, lemon juice, bleach, conditioner and so on. This summer I dyed my hair pink and blue and with that came massive stains on the sink and surrounding areas. I came over the most effective way I have EVER used when it comes to stain removal! This works on fresh stains and on stains that have soaked just as long as the dye in your hair.

  1. Find your hairspray can – every girl has hairspray lying around. Especially if you are into the pinup lifestyle.
  2. Spray over the stains. This works on most surfaces I’ve tried in the bathroom sink, on the counter and on the floor tiles.
  3. Let it soak for a little minute and find a moist cloth. (preferably not a white one as I did)
  4. Now watch the magic happen as you simply wipe away the hairspray covered areas, and watch how the hair dye comes of with just one wipe!

PhotoGrid_1444839460038

YES, the last picture IS from after I cleaned the counter with the cloth. It’s AMAZING how well this technique works! It’s best to use it as soon as possible. While your dye is working in your hair – NOT after you’ve washed it out. It does work on old stains as well, but then you have to repeat the steps a few times before getting the same result.

This also works for stains on your hands. Spray you hands, let it soak and then wash with water. Removes the worst stains, not all.

Winter is coming!

Yes I have been away from the blog for almost 3 months, but in my defence I’ve had nothing to write about. But now that we’ve entered the wonderful season of autumn and winter; I finally have something to write about: my newest clothing investment! Yay me!

PhotoGrid_1444650400324

Those of you that actually follow my blog and have read my previous entries and rants, know that I am very faithful to my old workplace; Kjoledamen in Stavanger. They always get cute outfits and accessories that match my pinup style, so I keep going back to them no matter how many other stores I find and start to order from. They are my first choice every time I feel the need to update my wardrobe. I always check their online store first before going to other pages!

Recently they just got some winter appropriate clothing. And thank the lord for that! I’ve been totally bummed by the fact that I have zero to none casual sweaters to match my trousers and skirts! I only have summer inspired tops that work more for the summer months and more formal occasions. But wearing them on a normal day during winter, would seem a bit to overkill and overdressed. Even for my standards! And other than that  only have cardigans and zero tops that can pass for winter-wear. So sweaters were something I desperately wanted and needed! Lucky for me they JUST got a shipment from Hell Bunny!

PhotoGrid_1444650057697

Now this outfit is my absolute favorite! I love the pants and how they fit me! I have different sizes in trousers, all depending on the fabric. 10 and 8 are my sizes. With this model I went for a size 8 because on the Kjoledamen webshop they said the sizes were a bit roomy and you should go for the smaller size if you were in between. So I did; and it fits me PERFECTLY! It’s like it’s made especially for my body! I am so happy. Yes it is a capri model, but it’s not like I’m gonna run around in the snow with these pants, they are to be worn inside, so they are just as much winter appropriate as they are for the spring season.

The sweater is wonderful. It’s 30% wool and 70% acrylic so it will keep you nice and warm on those cold winter evenings. You will also survive running to the mailbox without a jacket. With Hellbunny I wear a size 10 in cardigans so that’s the size I went for in the sweaters as well, and boy am I glad I did! There is not much stretch, some, but not much. And it’s very fitted in the arms, so it’s more for casual wear when going out or getting visits. If you want to just cuddle on the sofa in your pajama pants you need to go up one size, it’s very fitted. BUT very nice! And I do love it. The reindeer sweater is in a dark green color so it’s a perfect match for both the trousers and the skirt I bought.

PhotoGrid_1444650140204

The skirt is in the same pattern and colors as the pants and can pass for both formal and casual wear, all depending on the occasion, chosing of top and accessories. Skirts normally are a size 8 in my closet, and this one was as well! It’s a perfect fit, a bit tight in the waist area(the pants had the same trouble) but that’s my own fault for being to addicted to baking lately! So I have in fact put on a cute little muffin top. There’s slightly stretch in the fabric so you will be able to move around, but not too much either so doing acrobatic dance moves might not be the best idea.

The top on the other hand is not quite like the reindeer sweater. It is in the same size but it seems to be a bit tighter in the fit than the green reindeer sweater. It’s a tiny inch shorter in the arms and a bit more tight around the arms and around the breasts and tummy, so if you are afraid of getting too fitted I would recommend a bigger size in this. If you like them fitted then order your regular size. I’m not sure if the other colors has the same issue, but the red sure does. And yes, I double checked that it was a size 10 like the Reindeer top, and it is!

Header09.20.137

So there you go. A little review of winter appropriate clothing and hopefully some inspiration to guide you in the right direction when trying to choose your winter wardrobe. Even though the pencil skirt is associated with more formal style, when paired with a wool sweater and in that dark plaid style, it can pass for a more casual look. Perhaps for work. All depending on how your style normally is. For me the skirt could pass for casual wear together with either the red heart sweater or the green reindeer sweater.
